The Caine Prize for Arican Writing

Come to ROSL ARTS for a relaxed evening with the nominees of the 2009 Caine Prize. Each author will read a short extract from their work, after which there will be an opportunity to meet them over a glass of complimentary wine. This event offers a unique platform to sample some of the best new literary voices coming out of Africa.

Join ROSL ARTS for a delightful afternoon of piano music presented by students from the Royal College of Music. This hour long recital will be followed by tea and scones in the central lounge. Programme includes Purcell, Schubert, Haydn, Verdi, Scriabin and Debussy.

South African pianist Ben Schoeman wins the 2009 ROSL Annual Music Competition!

On Tuesday 5th May the 57th ROSL Annual Music Competition Final was held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Competing for the First Prize and Gold Medal were Sarah Beaty clarinet, Yelian He cello, Madeleine Pierard soprano, and Ben Schoeman piano. After each performing a short recital, Ben Schoeman was announced our 2009 winner. Ben joins other pianists who have taken out the ROSL First Prize including Frank Wibaut (1968), Andrew Haigh (1970), Piers Lane (1982), Ashley Wass (1995), Alexander Taylor ( 1998), and Martin Cousin (2003).  Ben will be performing with ROSL ARTS during 2009, so do stay tuned for more information!

Other highlights of the evening were performances by our two 2009 Prizewinning Ensembles, the Solstice String Quartet and the St James Wind Quintet.
